Description: As the Board member partner assigned to work with the Actuary of the Future Section as of March 2005, I am reporting to you about several topics that may interest the section membership for this newsletter. Many of you have already received a lot of information and/or have read articles about the strategic plan, the image campaign, the reorganization of the SOA by sections versus practice areas and other large efforts underway at the SOA. There are many other things going on that are exciting, so I will focus on sharing other issues with you that may be less well known.

Description: From a session at a meeting of the Society of Actuaries held in Las Vegas, NV May 22-24, 2000 This session discussed the purpose of the proposed Ambassador Program under development by the Actuary of the Future Section to focus on the nontraditional actuarial practice areas that are expected to play an increasingly significant role within the actuarial profession in the 21st century.

Description: From a session at a meeting of the Society of Actuaries held in Las Vegas, NV May 22-24, 2000 The American Academy of Actuaries had put together an ad hoc task force charged with developing a long-term strategic approach for marketing the profession to future users of actuarial services and to strategically position and strengthen the profession. This session provided an update on the progress of the task force.

Description: Introduction to the field of the Personal Actuary. The session presented what a personal actuary does that is different from traditional consulting what skills actuaries presently have that are relevant what skills need to be enhanced potential clients of a personal actuary and how an aspiring personal actuary can secure a client base and a potential financial model for a practicing personal actuary. A panel of practicing personal actuaries share case studies from their work.
